Try This...
it simply uses the system that I mentioned in my previous post.

Re: MIDI CC Switch In/Out

Hi DigitalWhiteByte

I seem to get a strange behavior when using the switches with the akai apc40.. i assign for example.. C3 note60 to the switch (on/off) on the midi controller, when flicking your switch in SM on and off it turns the light on the APC on and off accordingly, all good up to now.. but when i press the APC's switch it doesn't effect the SM switch properly sometimes it moves once, then wont move to the off position until i press lets say midi note 59 ( which hasn't been assigned for that switch)

any ideas on fixing this up some more? really dieing to try out making the APC into a two way controller for a VSTi and your midi work has really jump started it.

Thanks.

I do not have an APC40, you may first check with MIDI-OX what is sent from the controller,
and then follow this guide, the communication protocol for the APC40,
the cotroller is set as the defaul device control for ableton, but through the sysex,
you can set it in general midi mode.

im pretty sure it works just as a switch on any other controller would, unfortunately i can not test it on another controller atm, would be very great-full if any one else could see if its working both ways?

basically its treating the switch as a c3 (60) note on note off event, so i cant tell why it shouldn't be working.

from what i can gather the input to SM is always correct switching on and off accordingly, but the output midi from SM seems to skip sometimes.. i shall continue to play about with it.
